Presenter: Maria Fadiman

Maria Fadiman, Ph.D. is a professor in the department of geosciences at Florida Atlantic University (FAU) and a 2006 National Geographic Emerging Explorer. She earned her doctoral degree from The University of Texas at Austin, her master’s from Tulane University, and her bachelor’s degree from Vassar College. She researches the human/environmental aspect of conservation, focusing on ethnobotany, the study of the relationship between people and plants. She works primarily in rural areas throughout the globe, particularly in the rainforests of Latin America and Africa’s savannas.
